CORRIDOR

Determine the corridor not as an ubiquitous volume, but as a spatial tool of object reconstruction. A blank space and boundless passage, a void sustained by an array of devices and familiar objects.

OBVIOUS

This project will look closely at the stylistic features of various ongoing mixed-use large development now being built in Los Angeles and their facades as the place where cultural relationships get resolved within an urban context.

PRISON OF

THE FUTURE

Our facility is committed to reduce the number of people involved in adult criminal system, improving conditions for those who remain incarcerated and provide meaningful opportunities of success for those rejoining our communities.

TECTONIC: TECTONICS

Tectonics – understood as architecture’s material anatomy and its effects - and Performance – largely consisting of technical, technological and cultural environmental dimensions. The class focuses predominantly on the building envelope – particularly on its forms of articulation and means of producing apertures.

PRECEDENT,

TECTONICS,

REPRESENTATION

If, in the broadest sense, a thesis is about addressing the question ‘what is architecture?’ then this project is paring it down a bit by providing a loose constellation of topics that includes precedent, tectonics, and representation. The thread of technology is intended to compel a philosophical perspective towards all three into a coherent project.

DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

Design Development of the "Articulation studio"

ARTICULATION

This studio in the core sequence introduces students to the comprehensive design and development of a large scale, institutional building in an urban site. Advancing on the pedagogy established in previous studios (A-M-I-G-A-A: architecture as mass, interiority, ground, aperture and articulation), this studio focuses on the design, development and tectonic of the building envelope and its ability to articulate contemporary formal organizations.

FIELD OPERATIONS:

HIGHRISE

This project locates the idea of architecture at the intersection of various systems of information: from technical to cultural, from visual to tactile. By studying the specificities of the Tall Building envelope I will be exposed to the tight dependency existing between serial determinations –of both geometric and material order  of the outermost surface, and the spaces it encloses, its surroundings and its iconographic performance.

FRAMEWORKS:

PROGRAM

Programming – a thorough analysis of the quantitative and qualitative requirements of a building or site - has long been at the core of the architectural practice. Cultural values and traditions, politics and technology have historically all driven programmatic principles. By extension, the relationship between form and program has similarly evolved based on the context of the time.
